About
In a quaint little corner of Carolina Beach lives the Joseph Ryder Lewis Jr. Civil War Park which preserves some of the last remaining bits of the historical Sugar Loaf earthworks. The mile-long defensive line was constructed in 1864 as a defensive mechanism in the Civil War. This mostly shaded park allows you to explore the history of the area, bird-watch, or just enjoy nature. There is a gravel lot to park in and small bridge to cross over into the park itself.
