Abbey Preserve at Poplar Grove

Area

Wilmington

About

Discover miles of rustic trails at the over 62 acre Abbey Nature Preserve, originally a historic trail traversed for over three centuries by the enslaved community of Poplar Grove Plantation. A significant part of the Gullah Geechee National Heritage Corridor, find this oasis a short drive from historic downtown set back along a gravel road and parking lot surrounded by stunning trees with a forested path filled with seasonal plants, flowers, and unique native ecosystems. Walk the same path as some of the first area African Americans did to see the same sights of honeysuckles, lush greenery, and ancient trees. Enjoy the great outdoors with family, friends, and pets while strolling, birdwatching, or simply observing the abundant wildlife. Dedicated to the memory of Margaret Abbey Foy Moore.
